Dog found in Alexandra Meadows

A resident has found a beautiful Black & Brown female dog on the night of July 27, 2013 along Melanie Drive.  The dog has the general features of a “Black & Brown Coonhound” although may be a mix of some kind. She was found with a collar but no tags. Rickord’s Animal Hospital scanned for a microchip but none was found. She appears in general good health although it has some insect bites and a torn pad on one foot, causing a slight limp.

She seems quite friendly with people and had no problem socializing with other animals at the veterinarian’s office or at Petsmart. We estimate that she is less than a year old and has quite a bit of energy. In fact, she has a little too much energy for our 10 year old Chihuahua who finds her just a little too big and clumsy, as puppies can be.

While the puppy hasn’t shown any aggression, our Chihuahua is fearful of her which has a potential to create a conflict. We also have a full house and will not be able to provide foster care for this beautiful puppy for very long. If we cannot find the owner within a week or so, we may be forced to transfer her to a no-kill adoption center.

**Update: The dog was delivered to the Fort Worth, SPCA. This shelter is a “no kill” shelter but we are confident that she will have a new home in no time.
